The “Beta” Vancouver Island Inclusive Kayak Challenge is a unique, inclusive T.E.A.M. adventure that will feature 8 participants, three of whom are athletes with disabilities, two of whom are non-ambulatory.

Another unique TEAM-building sport adventure highlighting the power of an inclusive TEAM!

The trip is planned for Saturday August 16th—Friday August 22nd ). The location is Kyuquot Sound, in particular, the Barrier Islands that interface with the open North Pacific Ocean. We will spend much of our time among the Barrier Isles, paddling between scattered islets and small islands, off rocky headlands and across stretches of open water. We will fish and gather seafood as our primary food source for evening meals and travel self-supported for the duration.

We will work as a team in camp as well as learn to travel as a team on the water. Shore chores will include meal prep, water sourcing and cooking.

It is our goal at some point in the next couple of years to plan an event that would include serviceman and servicewoman from both the US and Canada with disabilities in a circumnavigation of Vancouver Island. In an effort to learn about some of the challenges and difficulties we might face from such an endeavor we have planned this “Beta Trip” to Vancouver Island in August.

Real Deal Inclusive Sports Adventure to be Broadcast on NBC Sports this Fall!

The Real Deal Inclusive Sports Adventure is a unique, inclusive T.E.A.M. adventure that features T.E.A.M.s of 5 participants, two of whom must be participants with disabilities, one of whom must be non-ambulatory. The event was inspired by world renowned climber Erik Weihenmayer, blind since the age of 13, and a World T.E.A.M. Sports board member. We were honored this year to host a total of ten teams and 50 amazing participants.

The Real Deal Sports Adventure includes mountain biking in the Colorado Rockies, white water rafting, climbing, hiking, rappelling , a zip-line over the Colorado River, orienteering, swimming in the Colorado River, and multiple T.E.A.M. problem solving, action-packed activities over the course of three days (the first day is a training day).

The Real Deal Inclusive Sports Adventure showcases the power of inclusive T.E.A.M.s, teaming participants with and without disabilities - showing what is really possible when you include everybody and work together.

Talk about T.E.A.M. building!

To succinctly summarize the event, it was amazingly inspiring!

The Real Deal Inclusive Sports Adventure wil be broadcast nationally on NBC Sports' Jeep World of Adventure Sports on Saturday November 8th, 2008.
