INJURED VETERANS TRAVEL FROM NATIONAL CAPITAL TO NATIONAL CAPITAL BY BICYCLE, HAND CYCLE AND RECUMBENT

World T.E.A.M. Sports, in collaboration with Soldier On Canada and Wounded Warriors Canada, present the 2014 CanAm Veterans’ Challenge, an inspiring two-week, 766-mile bicycle and hand cycle ride from Ottawa, Ontario to Washington, D.C. Presented by Realty Capital Securities, LLC, the ride confirms the deep cooperation and friendship between Canada and the United States of America and our commitment to the men and women who have served in the military and have become disabled while in service. During this inaugural CanAm Veterans’ Challenge, injured veterans from Canada, Denmark and the United States will ride together from capital to capital through scenic farmlands and forests, suburban and urban communities large and small, meeting Americans from both sides of the border. Each day, the team will travel from 10 to 90 miles, riding as a group, eating and assisting each other, and arriving together at the day’s destination.

A PROUD HISTORY OF INCLUSIVE SPORTS FOR VETERANS

World T.E.A.M. Sports creates exceptional inclusive events for injured servicemen and women, beginning with the landmark Vietnam Challenge in January 1998. 70 disabled riders from the United States and the former North Vietnam rode with 20 able-bodied coaches on a 16-day, 1,250-mile bicycle expedition from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City. This ride was followed by the Face of America ride in the Washington D.C. region in 2006 and annually the years since, honoring veterans who have sacrificed so much in their dedication and service to their nation. Participation by injured veterans has grown each year in this inspiring 110-mile, two-day ride. The cross-country Sea to Shining Sea ride in 2010 and 2012 saw teams of injured and able-bodied military riders cycling by hand cycle, recumbent and upright bicycle from San Francisco to Virginia Beach over two months.CanAm Website

World T.E.A.M. Sports‘ ongoing Military Initiative has created other inclusive events for injured military members, including the Coastal Team Challenge in 2009, the Soldiers to the Summit climb of Nepal’s Lobuche East in October, 2010 and the Soldiers to the Summit Snowbird winter sports camp in February, 2012. Veterans with disabilities have also participated in the organization’s annual Adventure Team Challenge in western Colorado, and represented World T.E.A.M. Sports in the Warrior 100K Ride from the George W. Bush Institute in Texas.
