Holbrook, New York, March 12, 2013: American Portfolios Financial Services, Inc., a leading financial services company and independent broker/dealer, announced today their sponsorship support of World T.E.A.M. Sports’ annual Face of America ride honoring disabled veterans this April 26-28.
“This year, we will again ride from Washington DC to the Gettysburg battlefield in honor of these brave men and women,” said American Portfolios CEO and President, Lon Dolber. “What makes this trip unique—as is the case with all World T.E.A.M. sponsored events—is its inclusive nature where you get to ride alongside these exceptional athletes. This is so important for them but it may be equally important to those who ride with them.”
American Portfolios is not only sponsoring one of the largest participating teams of riders, but it is also providing additional financial support for the ride that is expected to attract 500 participants from across the nation. Starting at the Pentagon, the two-day, 110-mile ride follows scenic country rides through rural Maryland to the historic battlefields of Gettysburg. First run as a cross-continental ride in 2000, the Face of America served as the official 9/11 commemorative ride in 2002 and 2003, from Ground Zero in New York to the Pentagon.
“You feel very connected to these wounded warriors with whom you are riding; it is a life changing experience that, in a very meaningful way, acknowledges the service and sacrifices given by these brave men and women to their country, and celebrates their long, hard passage to a restored and productive life,” said Dolber of Face of America. This year’s ride is expected to include 100 disabled veterans from wars and conflicts from Vietnam through Iraq and Afghanistan, in addition to active and retired military and civilian riders.
World T.E.A.M. Sports Chief Operations Officer Van Brinson is thankful for the continued support from American Portfolios. “This organization is only as strong as the support that it receives,” he said. “Only through the long term support of companies such as American Portfolios are we able to continue our mission. We welcome their support and look forward to growing our relationship on future events.”
Participants in the Face of America raise funds in support of the ride, with any additional funds following the event applied to upcoming events from the national non-profit World T.E.A.M. Sports. In mid-May, the organization is hosting the annual Adventure TEAM Challenge in western Colorado’s high desert, featuring competing teams of disabled and able-bodied participants. World T.E.A.M. Sports also partners with American Portfolios in directing the Adventure TEAM Challenge at Frost Valley, New York, a June 7-9 event bringing together 20 disabled and able-bodied teen competitors.
The Face of America ride is supported through sponsorships from Capital One Bank, Booz Allen Hamilton, General Electric, Penske Truck Rental, Fidelity & Guaranty Life Insurance Company, Subway of the Bethesda Naval Hospital and Revolution Cycles.

About World T.E.A.M. Sports
World T.E.A.M. Sports is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization chartered in North Carolina and headquartered in Holbrook, New York. Celebrating 20 years in 2013, World T.E.A.M. Sports has organized athletic events for disabled and able bodied citizens – mountain climbing, white water rafting, biking, and more. In all our events – whether mountain climbing, biking, white water rafting or many other sports – we include both disabled and able-bodied participants. Four things always happen at our events: 1) Disabled participants build self-confidence and physical fitness. 2) The disabled provide a role model for other disabled citizens, encouraging them to take up physical activities. 3) The disabled become a moving inspiration to other participants and to spectators when they see that disabled individuals can meet challenges beyond anyone’s imagination. 4) The disabled and able-bodied participants learn to work as a team to overcome those challenges. We change lives through sports.
