Didrik Johnck’s dedication and easy going style took him to the summit of Mount Everest as the Expedition Photographer documenting blind climber Erik Weihenmayer’s historic 2001 ascent. Time & Life magazines published photographs from his shoot – Time used an image from Didrik for its cover, while Life published his images in their prestigious “Year in Pictures” collection.
For World T.E.A.M. Sports‘ October 2010 Soldiers to the Summit Expedition to Nepal, Didrik again served as the official Expedition Photographer, climbing with Weihenmayer and documenting the participants of the expedition and their journey to the summit of Lobuche East.
While mountain climbing has always been a passion for Didrik, leading to countless shoots in some of the most remote and wild mountain ranges on the planet, he also has spent time in the “trenches” of civilized society looking for the untold stories of human drama that surround us.
Whether behind the lens or not, Didrik is equally at home in the windy streets of San Francisco, the muggy jungles of Burma, or the icy peaks of the Himalayas. He has shot on location in most major cities and mountain ranges in the western United States, the Himalayas, Australia, China, Bosnia, Cambodia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Israel, Macedonia, Mexico, Myanmar (Burma), Nepal, Peru, Russia, Rwanda, Thailand, Tibet, and Venezuela.
From his roots as an editorial and commercial photographer, Didrik’s talents have pulled him into the world of motion pictures where he’s shot, produced, and/or directed over 200 webisodes for some of the largest sites on the internet including MSN, MSNBC, and YAHOO!.
